Tweaking Photomerged Images In Photoshop - Photoshop Tutorial From Mark Galer
The following tutorial, Tweaking Photomerged Images In Photoshop, is adapted from Photoshop CS5 Essentials by Mark Galer and Philip Andrews.
Photomerge is capable of aligning and blending images without any signs of banding in smooth areas of transition. The new and improved Photomerge first made its appearance back in Photoshop CS3 and the stitching is usually seamless. This project, however, takes a look at how we can correct minor errors when things don’t quite match up. This is usually a result of using a wide-angle lens that includes a lot of foreground subject matter but without using a specialized tripod head to eliminate parallax error. The ease with which Photoshop can stitch these panoramas will be improved if you capture vertical images with a 50% overlap using manual exposure, manual focus and a manual White Balance setting (or process the images identically in Camera Raw). With a little know how, Photomerge is an excellent way of widening your horizons or competing with your best friend’s 60 Megapixel Hasselblad H4D.

Adobe has posted a tutorial — Cross-browser Testing With Adobe BrowserLab And Dreamweaver CS5 by Tommi West. From the intro:

Free Photoshop Lightroom Presets From Julieanne Kost
Adobe evangelist Julieanne Kost has posted the following free Lightroom presets:
Effects – Grain and Post-Crop Vignetting Presets
There are presets for the Color Priority (CP), Highlight Priority (HP) and Paint Overlay (PO) Style. I find that they Color Priority is more subtle than the Highlight Priority but unfortunately can not recover highlights in an image. Highlight Priority is more blatant and may have color shifts in the darker values, but has the advantage of recovering highlights. Both of these styles (CP and HP) work more like a shift in exposure in comparison to the Paint Overlay (PO) style (which is similar to an overlay of black or white paint).
I have also included a Color Priority preset with the Highlights slider set to 100 to reintroduces contrast in the highlights. This will be most noticeable if the vignetting is applied over bright areas such as highlights in a sky. There is a preset to add a hard black or white edge as well. And although my presets darken the edges, you can always set the Amount slider to a positive value to lighten the edge.
I have also included a few presets for adding Grain. It is important to note, you will need to do some testing in order to see how the grain that you add will look on your final output. As you can imagine the amount, size and Roughness of the grain will appear differently depending on the size of the original file and how you choose to export it (as it will most likely need to be sampled up or down in the process).
Lens Correction Presets
Many of you have probably set your default settings in the Develop module so that the Lens Profile Corrections are enabled by default. But there might be occasions when you want to quickly enable/disable lens profile correction. In order to do so, I created two presets, one to enable and one to disable this option. In addition, I created a preset to enable lens profile correction for Distortion and Chromatic Aberration, yet suppress any Vignetting correction (because sometimes I want the edges darkened when shooting with a wide angle lens).
Single Color Split Toning Presets
Today I am sharing my Split Tone panel presets. Like yesterday, these presets are really simple. The first one “*Auto B/W Mix “will convert the image to B/W using Lightroom’s default conversion. You will want to click this first if you are trying to create a single color toned image. (Note: I didn’t include the B/W conversion within each preset because I thought some photographers might want to add a creative color cast to an image, instead of making it a single color toned image.) The second preset “*Reset” sets the image back to color. The third preset “*Sepia 40H 30S” is my personal favorite for creating a sepia tone image.
The rest of the presets set the Saturation slider (in the Shadows) to 20 and simply change the Hue Slider. For example, “Cyan H180 S20” has a hue that I think looks like cyan but because this is subjective, I have also added the exact Hue (in this case 180) and the saturation setting (S20).
Obviously from here you can customize them as you see fit, create your own, and delete the one’s that you don’t want to use. Try experimenting adding Hue and Saturation to the Highlights and then changing the Balance Slider between the two. Play, and save a new preset when you see something that you like and may want to use again. Remember, these are only a starting point!
Lightroom 3 – Selective Color Removal Presets
A number of people have been asking me to post the presets that I have showed when demonstrating Lightroom so although I don’t feel that they are earth shattering by any means, I do hope that they may prevent us all from individually recreating the wheel. The first set all decrease the amount of saturation in one or more color ranges in the HSL/Color/B&W panel.
The “*Default Saturation Settings (0)” preset will set all of the Saturation values to 0 (zero) and can be used at any time to quickly reset the sliders. The next four presets decrease the overall saturation of the image by reducing the values of all sliders equally (-30, -50, -75 and -100). From there, I started targeting specific color ranges – reducing multiple sliders at one time to -100 (GAB for Green, Aqua, Blue and ROY for Red, Orange Yellow). Finally, there are presets for desaturating each individual color range -100. As I mentioned, these presets aren’t complex, but I do find myself making these changes enough to warrant the creation of the preset so that I don’t want to have to drag the sliders each time.

How To Make Your Own Textures In Photoshop
Enjoy this free Photoshop tip from Photoshop Daily... If you want a certain look that isn’t catered for by the preset textures, it’s easy enough to make your own. Textures aren’t huge files, so go to File>New and set the document as 512 x 512 pixels at 72ppi (the same as Photoshop’s textures). Textures also work best as Grayscale, so set the mode as such. Once you’ve applied your texture, save it as a PSD in a suitable location. Now load up as you would any other texture. You can use anything you like as a texture, so it is worth going out with a compact camera and shooting whatever takes your fancy: try brickwork, metal, flooring, posters, walls, etc.

Photoshop Tip: Improve Tonal Range In Black And White Images
Enjoy this free photo-editing tip from Photoshop Daily and improve your Photoshop skills — black and white images can look great but they can so easily end up looking flat and boring. If you are suffering from mediocre monochrome, here’s a tip to add some zing to things.
There are many ways of converting your images to black and white. A quick alternative to using the Channel Mixer is to convert a colour shot to black and white using the Image>Adjustment> Desaturate command. Although this creates a washed-out image dominated by midtones, you can improve the shot by going to Image>Adjustments> Equalize. Equalize remaps the brightest pixels in the shot to pure white and the darkest to pure black. It also tries to spread out the midtones throughout the tonal range, creating an image with more contrast.

If you do this using the Edit>Transform tools, the pixels selected by the marquee will also be transformed. To adjust the marquee only, go to Select>Transform Selection. Hit Enter to apply the transformation.

How To Hide The Marching Ants - Photoshop Tip
Enjoy this free photo-editing tip from Photoshop Daily and improve your Photoshop skills — How To Hide The Marching Ants.
When working with a selection marquee it can often be handy to hide the ‘marching ants’ so you can see how your edit is shaping up. Press Cmd/Ctrl+H to hide the marquee but still leave it active. This means that you can see if your edits are working without being distracted by the marquee and figure out your next step. By doing this you can see how the pixels adjacent to the marquee blend with the pixels that are enclosed by the selection and make changes as required. You can then bring the marching ants back in and carry on working on your image.
