ArtRage For iPads - Actually “Paints” On Your iPad - Blends Digital Watercolor
October 28, 2010

ArtRage For iPads - Actually “Paints” On Your iPad - Blends Digital WatercolorArtRage for iPad lets you become a digital artist on your iPad, providing the experience of actually “painting” digitally on an iPad canvas with oil painting effects that smear and blend and watercolor strokes that merge to create soft, wet gradations, just as they would in a traditional art studio.

The iPad user interface allows artists of all levels to bring their iPad everywhere they go to be ready to spontaneously unleash their creativity on the spot by drawing, sketching, and painting on the iPad in a wide range of artistic styles with tools that interact on the screen just as they would with real paint, ink, chalk, pen, or pencil.

Priced at only $6.99, ArtRage for iPad is the perfect holiday stocking stuffer gift for a budding artist delving into mobile art with the iPad. “Once you experience ArtRage, you cannot live without it anymore,” said Sarah Brody, Principal, Sarah Brody Design. “Now I will never miss an opportunity to express myself artistically with my iPad with ArtRage installed on it. With ArtRage, you can almost smell the paint and feel the paper’s texture.” Barbara Lietzow, San Francisco-based painter and visual communications expert said, “The quality of paint representation and ArtRage’s ability to perfectly replicate impasto is uniquely realistic. ArtRage on the iPad allows me to work both in the studio and on the go to further explore new sculptural painting techniques.”

Files from ArtRage for iPad can also be used on the desktop versions of ArtRage for Mac and Windows, and exported to JPEG, Photoshop and other formats for additional professional features, printing, and collaboration. In addition, digital photos can be imported and converted into paint, reworked in oil or watercolor or serve as a reference image while drawing. With its image tracing capabilities for photos, ArtRage can select colors automatically for every new stroke.

onOne Software Announces Perfect Resize For Adobe Photoshop And Photoshop Lightroom
October 28, 2010

Exclusive onOne Software 15% Instant Discount CoupononOne today announced Perfect Resize, one component of the Perfect Photo Suite 5.5 for Adobe Photoshop and Photoshop Lightroom, that was also announced today. The next generation of Genuine Fractals technology, Perfect Resize adds new features for achieving sharp detail when enlarging images, new gallery wrap and tiling options, and interface enhancements for photographers who want to make the highest quality prints. Perfect Resize supports Photoshop CS5, CS4, CS3 and CS2 and can now be used directly from within Adobe Photoshop Lightroom and Apple Aperture without the need for a separate host application.

New Features in Perfect Resize, the next generation of Genuine Fractals

NEW Smoothness Control: Designed for the demanding photographer, the new Smoothness control allows users to adjust the smoothness of curved edges to minimize artifacts. This new feature is very useful when resizing images and is especially valuable when working with lower resolution source files or when an extreme crop is required from a higher resolution source file.

NEW Loupe Tool: With the new Loupe feature, photographers can get an instant 1:1 or 100% magnified preview of enlargement quality while still seeing the entire image with the Loupe function of the Navigator.

Exclusive onOne Software 15% Instant Discount Coupon
Enter our exclusive discount coupon code - PSSPPT06 - during checkout at onOne Software for an instant 15% discount on any onOne product. This includes Perfect Photo Suite.

NEW Presets: Photographers can now achieve consistent results in less time by saving commonly used settings with the new Presets feature. Photographers who routinely send images to labs will benefit by creating a preset that allows them to resize the image, apply a specific sharpening amount and apply a gallery wrap all in one step. Stock photographers who need to resize batches of images before submitting them will also benefit from this new feature as well.

NEW Sharpening Methods: Two new sharpening methods allow photographers to sharpen small details without causing halos on larger, distinct edges. The first sharpening method targets out-of-focus images and the second method adapts the sharpening amount automatically to the size of image details.

Work Directly with Lightroom and Aperture: Perfect Resize has improved integration with Photoshop Lightroom and Apple Aperture and no longer requires a host application to get amazing results when enlarging an image. Of course, it still works within Adobe Photoshop as well.

Improved Gallery Wrap: Photographers can now be preview the Perfect Resize gallery wrap results in real time. This allows users to quickly fine tune their settings for the perfect gallery wrap. Additionally, gallery wrap corners are automatically filled in with matching image detail from the surrounding area. While it may not sound like much, the improvements to this feature alone will save photographers hours of time when assembling their gallery wrap.

Improved Tiling: The Tiling feature now automatically saves each tile as new file instead of individual layers in a single file. This makes it much easier to save and print individual tiles especially if you send these tiles out to a print service provider. Additionally, because each tile is its own file, you can easily create canvas diptychs, triptychs or mosaics with and the improved gallery wrap feature.

Batch Processing Enhancements: Easily work with images of mixed size, type and orientation with more batch-processing engine options. Save time by batch processing images from the Export dialog inside of Lightroom.

Misc Improvements: Additional enhancements include presets for common printer resolutions, improved progress indicators, improved film grain simulation, the ability to arbitrarily rotate the crop box and a faster, smoother image previewing experience.

Perfect Resize will be available in early December as a standalone product and as a part of the new Perfect Photo Suite 5.5. Owners of Genuine Fractals 6 or earlier can upgrade to Perfect Resize for $99.95 or to the Perfect Photo Suite 5.5 for $349.95. Owners of Plug-In Suite 5 are eligible for a free upgrade to Perfect Photo Suite 5.5, which includes Perfect Resize 7.

Users who purchase Genuine Fractals 6 on or after September 27, 2010 will receive a free upgrade to Perfect Resize 7 when it ships in early December 2010.

Owners of Plug-In Suite 1, 2, 3 or 4 can upgrade to the Perfect Photo Suite for $199.95. A number of useful blending modes offer the ability to dramatically alter images by changing the brightness, altering the color or even creating special effects. Lightroom 3 Keyboard Shortcuts - Lightroom Keyboard Shortcuts Plugin - Free Lightroom Shortcuts PDF - Complete Shortcuts Chart
October 11, 2010

From Photographer's Toolbox: Keyboard Tamer is a plugin for Lightroom 3 that allows you to redefine most of Lightroom's keyboard shortcuts, and to create new shortcuts for functions that don't yet have them. This plugin will be invaluable for those who wish to streamline their workflow and make Lightroom work for them. It's also a must for those who use Lightroom in a language that's different to the expected one for their keyboard layout.

For example, those who run Lightroom in English on a machine with a non-U.S. keyboard will normally find that many of the shortcuts are inaccessible - with this plugin they can be redefined. This is a donationware plugin. The trial version will only allow you to change one keyboard shortcut, and donating will remove this restriction.

From Adobe: Using Photoshop Lightroom 3 Keyboard shortcuts (online help - complete Lightroom keyboard shortcut chart)

From Victoria Bampton: Adobe Lightroom 3 Keyboard Shortcuts - Free Download — I'm just finishing reformatting as Letter size, but in the meantime, here's all of the shortcuts direct from the book: Adobe Lightroom 3 Keyboard Shortcuts

Photoshop Elements 9: The Missing Manual from O'Reilly Media - Free Sample Chapters
October 09, 2010

Elements 9 offers much of Photoshop's power without the huge price tag. It's an ideal tool for most image-editing buffs—including scrapbookers, photographers, and aspiring graphic artists. But Elements still doesn't come with a decent manual. Photoshop Elements 9: The Missing Manual (O'Reilly Media, $44.99 USD), will help you get the most out of the program, from the basics to advanced tips for both Windows and Mac.

Free Sample Chapters
Adding Layer Styles, Shapes, and Actions
Adding your online finds to Elements 9 is a good news/bad news situation: It’s easy to add Layer styles, shapes, and actions (see page 434 for more about using actions in Elements), but if you want to categorize them or have them show up in your Content panel searches, you’re in for a trip through some pretty techie territory. To add your extras, just put them into the following folders and, the next time you launch Elements, they’ll show up in the Show All section of the relevant palette:

The Organizer, Menu by Menu
This appendix gives you a quick tour of the main menus in the Organizer—the ones listed at the top of the screen. The Organizer has two main views: Media Browser and Date view. Both offer the same menu choices—everything listed here is available in either view. Keyboard shortcuts and buttons in the Organizer windows give you access to many of these menu items. When you have two ways to run a command, both are mentioned here.

The Editor, Menu by Menu
The Editor’s menus are far more complex than the Organizer’s menus. All three of the Editor’s modes—Full Edit, Quick Fix, and Guided Edit—have the same menus, although some choices are grayed out when you’re in Quick Fix or Guided Edit mode. When you need a menu item that’s not available in Quick Fix or Guided Edit, just switch back to Full Edit to use it.
